262 players were drafted in the 2022 NFL draft. Out of those players the majority are unable to keep playing, even then only 30% of players actually make it on a NFL roster. Those who get to play most likely won’t draw much attention to their name.
The San Francisco 49ers had the 262nd pick in the NFL draft, they took a quarterback from Iowa who only had a 30% chance of making it on the field. Now he is taking his team to the SuperBowl.
Brock Purdy is one of the only two other “Mr Irrelevant” who have made it to the superbowl, before 1922. The other two included Matty More, and Ryan Succop. It’s very likely that if the two quarterbacks ahead of him didn’t get injured Brock Purdy would still be Mr Irrelevant.
Each team has their strengths. The 49ers have Christian McCaffrey, who is one of the best running backs in the league right now. According to CBS sports, McCaffrey is leading with 2,023 yards from scrimmage and 1,459 rushing yards. The Chiefs have Patrick Mahomes who is arguably the best quarterback in the league right now. Mahomes has taken Kansas City to the super bowl 4 times out of the past 5 years. The best thing the defensive team for the chiefs can do is to stop Christian McCaffrey, Brock Purdy can also throw far so having a good tackle defense is key.
