If Collin Sexton leaves what happens to Cleveland?

Updated: Jul 31, 2022

"LeBron James left the Cavaliers, yet again." In July of 2018, that was the title of every sports company, ESPN, Bleacher Report, Barstool, SB Nation, and more. Every fan in Cleveland was prepared for the worst with the next few seasons. With the loss of the goat, the Cavs did receive Collin Sexton in the 2018 draft.

Since 2018 Cleveland has yet to make it to the playoffs, they were close last season being 9th overall. Sexton has seen the bad in the Cavs. His first season they finished 14th in standings, the next season they dropped to 15th, then in 2020 they got back up to 13. Rumors have been going around that Sexton isn't happy with what Cleveland is paying him.

Sexton wanted $80 million, and Cleveland is not going that high. They offered him three years with $40 million. Sexton did miss 11 games last season due to a knee injury. However, is scoring 20 points per game and his shot is only improving.

If Sexton doesn't take the deal and ends up getting traded, (very unlikely) the Cavs might suffer for a few games but they now have the Mobley brothers. For Evans first NBA season he averaged around 15 points, eight rebounds and two assists. His brother, who was drafted by Cleveland in round two as the 49th pick this year. Isaiah played for USC and averaged around 14 points per game. These two players can't carry the Cavs to the playoffs, but the Cavs also have Jarrett Allen, Kevin Love, Darius Garland, Cedi Osman, and Ricky Rubio. Cleveland has changed since 2018 and knows how to depend on each other as opposed to one player. The Cavs would still suffer with losing Sexton but they would recover quickly.
