The End Of Pac-12

ree

This Is The End

Four teams remain in the pac-12. Stanford, California, Washington State, Oregon State. What does this mean for college football or even college basketball? There are two ways to look at this situation.

Number One

This is a cash grab move. With more teams moving over to The Big Ten, will there be more competition which can lead to better games? It all depends on the schedule and how they plan out the games, they could, but this only works if they play conference games instead of playing with small schools. This also means that The Big Ten will. be able to broadcast sports with any season that is going on at that time, basically from morning to night, because of the different time zones they have.

Number Two

College sports is taking more of a professional route. Since you have multiple teams with different time zones, a team in the East is going to have to travel all the way to the West 2-3 times a season, and vice versa. Depending on the school and what sport is being talked about, that program may not have the budget to travel that much. It just doesn't make sense geographically.

On August 7th Brett McMurphy tweeted out that the Pac-12 president had talked to the Big Ten president asking if they could take all 9 of them except Washington state and Oregon state.

ACC Fighting To Survive

The ACC is also struggling to stay alive. It's very possible for Clemson, and Florida State to leave. However, the buyout for Florida State to leave would be $300 million, would Florida state take that chance? It is very possible that they would pay the buyout, a writer for sportskeeda said that Florida State would pay $30 million annually for ten years.

For a long time now Florida State have been saying how unhappy they are in the ACC. Main reason being about television deals. The SEC is rumored to give $70 million when the new Tv deal comes out, says sportskeeda. Which is double the amount of what they are getting now.

Is There Hope For The ACC

If the ACC invites any of the four teams from what is remaining of the Pac-12, it might what saves them. Stanford could join the ACC, unless the Big Ten reaches out and invites them to join, California is also expected to join the ACC. The only problem with either team joining the ACC is travel. Over the next couple days we'll see what the future of the pac-12 as well as the ACC. If Clemson and Florida State leaves, then the ACC better start looking at other schools in hopes to save their division.
